Sun River Health in the City of Poughkeepsie, is doing just that, giving away free ice cream complete with an ice cream truck to anyone who shows up to receive a vaccine or consultations about vaccines.

The Sun River Health Mobile Health Center and the ice cream truck will be parked at Dr. Martin Luther King Gardens 159 Washington St., Poughkeepsie, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.

The initiative is a partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Data from the Kaiser Family Foundation Vaccine Tracker, an ongoing national research project to track public response to the COVID-19 vaccines, indicates that many in the “wait and see” group say that they need to talk with a medical expert about the vaccine before making their decision.

Sun River Health is promoting consultations on the vaccine, along with the vaccine itself, across its system of 43 health care centers in the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island.

Both the two-dose Pfizer vaccine and the Johnson & Johnson “one and done” vaccines will be available at the event.

Anyone interested will also be able to set up an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine just down the street at Sun River Health Poughkeepsie at 75 Washington St.

The vaccine is available to everyone age 12 and up.
